Summary:
1. They are more appealing to eat: Colors can be changed or improved with genetically modified food so they become more pleasing to eat. Deeper colors change how the brain perceives what is being eaten. Deeper red colors make food seem sweeter, even if it is not. Brighter foods are associated with better nutrition and improved flavors.

2. Stronger Crops: One of the main advantages of GM technology is that crops can be engineered to withstand weather extremes. This means that there will be good quality and sufficient yields even under poor or severe weather conditions. As populations across the world grow and more land is being utilized, farmers are pushed to grow crops in locations that are originally not suitable.

3. Easier to transport: Because GMOs have a prolonged shelf life, it is easier to transport them greater distances. This improvement makes it possible to take excess food products from one community and deliver it to another that may be experiencing a food shortage. GMO food gives us the opportunity to limit food waste, especially in the developing world, so that hunger can be reduced and potentially eliminated.

4. They are cheaper: GMO crops are bred to grow efficiently. This means that farmers can produce the same amount of food using less land, less water, and fewer pesticides than conventional crops.

# 9 Fish Strawberries

Scientists have been experimenting with combining strawberries with the “anti-freeze genes” that are found in cold water fish like Arctic Char and Sea flounders which help the strawberries resist freezing and dying in bad weather. Luckily, it doesn’t create a weird fishy-tasting strawberry.

Most genetically modified organisms have a scientific purpose in mind or a greater goal that usually justifies messing with something’s DNA spread. However, Eduard Kac used genetic engineering for creating works of art rather than for scientific research. His most notorious work was the Glow in the Dark rabbit named Alba. It sparked a debate about animal rights, but Alba died before anything was resolved.

However, this mouse would quickly become famous or infamous as it went onto the Jay Leno show and then used as a mascot by animal-rights groups who were opposed to genetic modifications.

The Androctonus australis is one of the most dangerous scorpions in the world with a venom that can cause tissue damage and death. So of course, we combined the genes from this scorpion with cabbage intended for human consumption. The gene of the scorpion’s venom changed when it was spliced with the cabbage. The venom is now only poison to insects, which spasm and die when they try to eat the crop. That same poison is supposedly completely harmless to humans, making it the perfect crop.

Researchers have created a tomato that is not only more flavorful but would also help prevent cancer. The researchers spliced tomatoes with the snapdragon flower to create a deep, purple tomato that almost looks like a blackberry. These super tomatoes contain potent antioxidants and inhibit the growth of cancer cells, ease the symptoms of diabetes, and even relieve the pains of growing old. You might just see purple tomatoes on your pizza someday soon.

In this short video, we’re going to talk about GMOs (genetically modified organisms).

What is GMO?
GMO (genetically modified organisms) is where they take a gene from one species like a fish and insert it into another species like a soy plant to alter the mechanics of what that plant can do.

Companies that do this really want to create a Roundup Ready plant. This means the plant will be resistant to Roundup Ready, which is an herbicide.

Foods that are mostly genetically modified:

• Soy
• Corn
• Canola
• Cottonseed
• Salmon (unless it’s organic)

If a soybean, for example, is resistant to a pesticide, you can spray the pesticide or herbicide on the plant, and the weeds around it will die, but the plant will not. However, you’re still getting the chemical in your body, and the liver can’t detoxify it.

95% of the GMO sold in the United States is being fed to animals—it’s in animal feeds. It goes through the animals and straight to you.
