Dropshipping Myth #1: Don’t I Need to Hide that the Package Comes from China?

No: because you can’t hide it! When customers use the tracking code we give them, they’ll quickly see that the package is coming from China.

It is true though that if you were to advertise that it was going to be sent from China, that people would be less willing to purchase. So do not advertise that it’s going to be sent from China, but don’t try to hide it from the customer either. If a customer gets upset about it coming from China, say that you’re shipping the item out directly to them to expedite the shipping process so that they get their item faster, as there has been huge demand for it.

Myth #2: What About South Dakota vs. Wayfair Ruling for Dropshippers?

In June 2018 there was an important Supreme Court case for dropshippers (and online retailers): Wayfair vs. South Dakota. In it, South Dakota won their case that they could require online retailers who don’t have nexus (in other words, a physical presence in South Dakota) to have to collect and pay sales tax. This was a huge ruling as previously in the USA, you had to have nexus in a state to collect/pay sales tax.

Luckily though - this won’t affect most retailers, including most dropshippers. Why? Because the ruling only applies to LARGE retailers who do a lot of sales in that one, single state. For South Dakota, the threshold is you need to be doing either $100,000 in sales or 200+ transactions within South Dakota in a year. For other states to implement thresholds significantly lower, they will have to go through the courts again.

Myth #3: Won’t I Need to Pay Tariffs or Import Duties?!

No - as a dropshipper, you do not pay tarrifs/import duties. It is your customer that will be required to pay them. However, there are very few times where orders from Aliexpress will attract import duties, as most countries have a very high package value threshold before they charge tarrifs. In the USA, it is $800. So neither you nor your customer needs to worry about it.

Myth #4: But Don’t I Need to Register a Business to Dropship?!

Most countries/states in the world will let you sell as a sole proprietor, otherwise known as a sole trader. As a sole proprietor, you do not need to register to start selling online - you can just create a store and start selling. When tax time rolls around, you may need to register for a separate tax ID, but it will depend on your local jurisdiction (please do not ask me what your local rules are, I know a lot about New Zealand’s laws because that is where I live, I don’t know about each individual country/state). In time you may wish to register a company because there are lots of bonuses and benefits to doing so, but it’s usually not a legal requirement.

Myth #5: Won’t People Track the Store Based on the Address?!

Firstly, customers won’t do this because there is no reason or incentive for them to want to Google the address of your supplier on the package. Secondly, even if the customer did do this, they would probably find nothing: usually the address of the suppliers is not posted online for us to access. And Aliexpress stores do not list their addresses, so customers won’t find the store you bought it from (and thus, not find the price you originally paid).

Myth #6: Won’t the USA/China Trade War Kill Dropshipping?

Donald Trump’s White House has announced plans on March 22, 2018 to increase tariffs on Chinese imports to discourage people from importing from China. This is unlikely to impact dropshippers though, as the packages we ship are below the tariff threshold in the first place. And there has been no announcement about lowering the threshold - and if it was lowered, it would be unlikely to go below the original threshold of $200.

Myth #7: Wait… Oberlo Doesn’t Buy the Items for Me?

Almost. Oberlo semi-automates the process for you by taking control of your screen and in seconds, adding the item to your cart and preparing it for purchase. But you still need to click the “Order Product” button to do this. And you still need to click the “Confirm and Pay” button on Aliexpress.

Need some extra cash for a venture? Here are 8 ways to earn it:

#1 Side job to make money: reselling items on eBay/Amazon/Craiglist

This was Sarah’s first side gig and it became very profitable very fast (and it was how she was able to earn money to reinvest into bigger and better businesses).

For this side gig, you go around your house and find items that you no longer use. The research firm NPD found that the average household in the USA has over $7,000 in junk that they no longer use.

Take the items you find, and compare their prices to the prices on sites like eBay, Amazon and Craiglist. If it’s worth it, you can list your items on there and sell them for extra money.

By doing that, not only will you get extra money, but you’ll also learn what items are profitable to resell. You can then go to garage sales, yard sales and thrift stores and look for those items to buy cheaply to resell on eBay/Amazon/Craiglist.

#2 Side job to make money: become a User Tester

If you go to UserTesting you can find jobs that are uploaded by developers/businesses that need their websites tested. You will need a working microphone for your computer to do this.

1) Pick a job. Take a short 2-4 survey to see if you qualify for the job.
2) If you qualify, you can start the job by running their screen capture recording software.
3) Read into your microphone the instructions you see on your screen.
4) Follow the instructions and talk into your microphone about your experience/impressions.

The 5 minute jobs pay about $3/job and that 10-15 minute jobs pay about $10-15/job.

#3 Side job to make money: become a virtual assistant/freelancer

Being a virtual assistant/freelancer is when you complete jobs remotely from home. You are usually not an official employee and instead are a contractor so you get to work on your own terms/hours. Here are some tips for getting hired:

* Fill out your profile as much as you can.
* If it’s relevant, include a portfolio.
* Get reviews ASAP. A good idea is to get friends/family to hire you and leave reviews.

BONUS TIP: Being a VA/Freelancer is a great way to get an inside look into successful businesses and learn how to build one yourself.

#4 Side job to make money: Amazon Mechanical Turk

This is a website owned by Amazon.com that lets businesses, researchers, marketing firms and consumer focus groups post small jobs called HITs which take 2-10 minutes to complete. Most of the jobs on here are short surveys (so if you want to get paid to take surveys this is how to do it legitimately!).

#5 Side job to make money: Airbnb

If you own a house/apartment then you make some extra money by becoming an Airbnb host. Here are some tips for making even more money with Airbnb:

* You don’t need a spare bedroom/bed. People are happy to sleep on couches!
* Get reviews ASAP. Getting friends/family to stay over and leave reviews is a great idea to shortcut this process.
* Clean your house and provide extra amenities (like soap/shampoo/toothpaste) to ensure you get good reviews and not bad reviews.

#6 Side job to make money: become an Uber/Lyft driver

Here are some tips for making even more money as an Uber driver or a Lyft driver.

* Drive during surge pricing hours. These are 8pm-2am Friday to Sunday.
* Lyft lets you rent a car from them. If you drive 65+ trips in a week, your car is free!
* You can drive with both Uber and Lyft active at the same time to maximize jobs you get.

#7 Side job to make money: become a Tasker on TaskRabbit

TaskRabbit is an app that lets people post odd jobs around their house/office they need someone to come and help them perform (like cleaning and assembling IKEA furniture). Some jobs people have received include:

* $80/Hour for 20 hours to assemble office furniture.
* $40 to lift groceries up stairs.

#8 Side job to make money: becoming a paid blogger

Finally, Make a Living Writing has a huge list of sites that will pay between $50-250 for articles/blog posts. If you like writing, reach out to these sites and see if you can become a writer for them!

Question: I can’t get Chrome! Can I not use Oberlo?

Question: Which version of Shopify should I purchase?

Answer: For most people, the normal $29/month plan (Shopify Basic) is great. The additional features of the more expensive $79/month plan (Shopify) are good once you start earning $5,000+ a month. You can upgrade to it later as your store makes money.

Question: Does this work if you live outside of the USA?

Answer: Yes, it does! As I said, I am from New Zealand. I understand that a lot of tutorials are designed around USA citizens and that can be frustrating. Don’t let the fact that you live outside the USA stop you from building a dropshipping business!

Question: Will customers really wait this long (2-4 weeks) to receive their items?

Question: Won’t customers go to Aliexpress/Amazon.com and purchase the items I’m selling and purchase from there since it is cheaper/faster?

Answer: This is where marketing is key. When creating your product page copy, make sure that it looks the potential customer immediately. That is also why it’s key to be careful about how you choose your Facebook targeting, and be careful about which Instagram influencers you choose to work with for your shoutouts. You want to make sure that you’re advertising to an audience that is super-targeted for the product you are selling, so that when they see it, they get so excited that the buy it then-and-there as an impulse purchase.

Question: Do you have any recommendations for marketing stores?

Answer: Yes. My preference is with Facebook ads. Some other great methods are Instagram Influencers & SEO. That is only the beginning though. There are plenty of other ways to advertise stores (including Google ads, building Facebook fan pages etc). I recommend picking one and focusing on it as a beginner.

In this video, we are going to give you a step-by-step tutorial which will teach you how to hire a virtual assistant. We are going to show you how to use Upwork when hiring VAs, and how to use OnlineJobs.ph.

Virtual assistants (otherwise known as VAs) are remote employees that you can hire from anywhere in the world. When people hire VAs, they usually have two questions:

1) What websites should you use when hiring VAs?
2) When countries should you hire virtual assistants from (the answers here may surprise you!)

Question #1 on how to hire a virtual assistant: What websites should I use to hire virtual assistants?

We have two websites that we use when hiring VAs: Upwork & OnlibeJobs.ph. Here is a quick tutorial on how to hire a virtual assistant on Upwork:

***Posting a Job on Upwork***

1) Sign into your account and click “post job.”
2) On the job listing page, the first thing you’ll need to do is select the type of job you are posting. When you are hiring a VA I recommend starting with a fixed-term contract. This let’s both you you see if you like working together. You can then move to a permanent job from there if you want to.
3) Select the category of what the job will be.
4) Write a job title. Make sure this is very detailed.
5) Write a job description. Again, the more descriptive, the better.
6) You can add an attachment to your listing. One thing we like to do is do a screen capture video to show what tasks need to be completed, and then add that to the listing.
7) Select how many freelancers you want to hire. Our recommendation is you only 1 when you are first getting started.
8) Select what type of project it will be. We recommend selecting fixed-term when first working with a VA and then moving to a permanent position from there.
9) Select how you will pay the VA. For a fixed position, you will usually pay a fixed price. For a permanent on-going position, you will usually pay by the hour.
10) Select what experience level you are looking for. The hourly rate listed under each experience level is only relevant for USA-based VAs, so ignore them. I recommend selecting intermediate-experienced.
11) Select how long you expect the job to last. For fixed term jobs, it is usually 1-4 weeks.
12) Note down the expected time commitment.
13) Select the box that says that only freelancers on Upwork can find your job. This stops your competitors from finding your jobs.
14) You can select qualifications, although it is an optional section.
15) We recommend selecting it so that applicants are required to include a cover letter.

And that’s it - post your job, and you’re done!

Here is a quick tutorial on how to hire a virtual assistant on OnlineJobs.ph:

***Posting a job listing on OnlineJobs.ph***

1) Sign into your account and click “post job.”
2) Add a descriptive title to your listing.
3) Add a detailed job description.
4) Type in what the payment will be. I recommend using either USD or PHP. For a fixed-term contract, type in a fixed price. For an on-going job, type in an hourly rate.
5) We recommend requiring an ID score of at least 70.
6) Select the skills required. We recommend requiring written & verbal English skills.
7) Type in your email address & name.

And that’s it! You’re done.

Question #2 on how to hire a virtual assistant: What country should I hire my VA from?

There is no country that is “better” than the other. If you are hiring from an anglo-European country be prepared to pay much higher prices as the median salaries are very high.

Most people want to know how to hire a virtual assistant for the lowest cost possible. These are the most common countries to hire from:

* India: Median salary is $620 USD a month.
* Philippines: Median salary is $570 USD a month.
* Pakistan: Median salary is $480 USD a month.
* Sri Lanka: Median salary is $400 USD a month.

Our personal preference is to hire virtual assistants if we can from the Philippines because the time zone is closest to our own so our work days overlap. But you may find that your timezone matches better with someone based in say, Pakistan.

English is also widely spoken in the Philippines, so a higher density of applicants are fluent in it, which makes the hiring process easier. But you may find the right VA in another country. There is no “right” or “wrong” country.

One last piece of advice on how to hire a Virtual Assistant: Treat all of your employees well. Your employees will make or break your business. Be a great boss!

The truth is, spending $200,000 on exotic cars like Lamborghini’s is a terrible investment. Why? It’s a depreciating asset! Instead, there are loads of other smarter investments you can make with your money, like a rental property - and earn a 10% return each year.

Depreciating car? Or a 10% return each year? Come on, I know which choice most people would make.

However, there is an exception: buying a Lamborghini on FINANCE. I have several friends who are successful in business - and this is exactly how they purchased theirs.

How did they do it? Well, they used this simple strategy...

1)Take $200,000 of their cash, then set aside $40,000 of it to be a 20% deposit on the car (or whatever the minimum deposit is)
2) Secure a low-interest 2% loan from the bank for the rest of the $160,000
3) Take the other $160,000 they have, and purchase a rental property with it, or invest into another asset.

And the proceeds of that asset help to pay off their car too. Sort of like having your cake and eating it.

You might think this is possible if you just get a good job and raise $40,000 in a few years, but there’s the twist: if you’ve got a job, banks won’t lend you the rest of the money. Banks only loan you as much as you make in a year, so to loan $160,000, you’re going to need to earn $160,000. And there are very few jobs that earn this much.

Quite frankly, this is a classic example of how the “rich get richer.” People who earn less have to waste more of their savings on their deposit, losing out on extra money earned by investing it into an appreciable asset. Whereas, those with more money get to invest LESS, and widen their income gap further by getting to invest more of their leftover money into other assets.

So yes, while you can save up to buy a Lamborghini with a job, most people wouldn’t spend their money that way.

Luckily, there’s another way...START YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

When it comes to owning supercars, the only people I know who own these are entrepreneurs and business owners. With jobs, there always an earning cap - since you exchange your time for money. And with only so many hours in a day you can work, once you’ve given all of them, that’s it - you’re sold out. However, with business, you make money through buying OTHER people’s time, then use those people to earn passive income.

One business we teach subscribers on our channel is Dropshipping. In case you don’t know, Dropshipping is when you open an online store, but you don’t need to purchase any items in-advance - as you only pay for the item AFTER the customer purchases.

Instead of buying stock in advance, you purchase each item individually from a manufacturer who is willing to ship it to your customer for you. Your job is to list the item at a mark-up price on your website, then when you’ve purchased it from the manufacturer, you keep the difference as profit.

At the start though, you’ll have to give up your free time to set up the store. And it may take a while to start making money since there’s also a learning curve. PLUS, you’re going have to start your business with your own money.

And so most people would look at this, and rather spend their evenings doing something like watching Netflix. So, they either give up, or never even try to start their own business.

But there’s people like Reynard, who doesn’t give up, spends his time and money, and doesn’t stop until he’s built a successful, profitable store. And its people like Reynard that will one day have the money to buy their own Lamborghini.

How? Let’s say Reynard spends 1-2 hours each day growing his store until it’s making $5,000 a month. He can then go and take $1,500 of that money and hire someone to run the store for him each month instead. Now he’s making $3,500 a month - PASSIVELY. Even as he sleeps, customers come in and purchase items from him.

But he doesn’t stop there. Now he’s outsourced the running of his store to an employee, he uses the time he’s gained to build ANOTHER store. Faster this time, as there’s no learning curve and he can just follow the formula he developed. And he builds THAT store up to $5,000 a month.

What do you think he does next? Yep, he repeats the process again…and again…and again.

Reynard has escaped the trap of spending his time to make money. Instead, he uses MONEY to make MONEY by finding OTHER people willing to exchange THEIR time to earn money.

The reality is, if you’d like a Lamborghini, then a job isn’t going to get you it. Instead, invest your free time wisely to grow and start a business that can turn into a passive income source. So, one day, you’ll be able to get your very own Lamborghini.
